Tegla Loroupe

Tegla Loroupe is a Kenyan runner who currently holds world records in the 20, 25 and 30 kilometer distances.  Tegla was the first Africa woman to win the New York City Marathon, which she won in 1994, and then again in 1995. Tegla is also a three-time World Half Marathon champion.

In December 2006, Tegla traveled with Team Darfur President Joey Cheek, and actors George Clooney and Don Cheadle to Beijing, Cairo, and New York on a diplomatic mission to bring an end to violence in Darfur.

Tegla competed in the 1992, 1996, and 2000 Olympic Games.
