Team Darfur athlete Leah Pells has competed in three consecutive Olympic games in 1992, 1996, and 2000.
When asked why she joined Team Darfur Pells said,
“As an athlete who is extremely fortunate to live and train in Canada, I have never feared for my life. The people in Darfur do not have that basic privilege, to live without fear of dying on a daily basis. As a global community we are all responsible for what goes on in the world, and we all have a voice to speak out against crimes of humanity. I want to be part of the voice that will bring peace to the people of Darfur.
I urge my fellow athletes as well as all Canadians to use their voice to help end the genocide in Darfur.”
