Mr. Strijdom was born in Pretoria, South Africa, and has been swimming for 13 years. He currently is a rising sophomore at the University of Kentucky where he has achieved exceptional times for the 50m and 100m Freestyle scoring 23.7 and 51.9 respectively. He will not be attending Beijing this summer, but has legitimate aspirations to qualify for the next Olympics.
Rui is a professional sailor.
Stephanie Sandler competed in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and has competed successfully in numerous other regional and international events.
Michael Malahe is a fencer from South Africa who feels passionately about ending the crisis in Darfur.
Micahel recently said, “I believe that Team Darfur gives me an opportunity, as an African athlete, to help my brothers and sisters in Sudan in a way that I could never do on my own.”
